Fire Protection System (FPS) Sampling and Test Kit for Condition Assessment and MIC Testing

CorrConsult has developed the FPS sampling and test kit to enable owners, supervisors, and/or installers of sprinkler systems to collect and ship samples of sprinkler pipe and water to CorrConsult for subsequent laboratory analysis. Pinhole leaks, blockages, and rust colored sprinkler water are all possible manifestations of ongoing corrosion within a sprinkler system.
When it is suspected that a sprinkler system may be affected by corrosion, pinhole leaks, and/or the biodeterioration effects of bacteria known to be associated with microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC), the FPS sampling and test kit provides the user with the tools and instructions to obtain water and pipe samples in a scientifically sound and microbiologically sterile manner.

A written report, which include chemical, microbiological, and metallurgical results is provided to the client within two weeks after receipt of the samples. In addition, the report will also include conclusions with regard to the extent of materials deterioration and recommendations for mitigation. Owners and/or operators of sprinkler systems can then make informed decisions regarding rehabilitation and future preventative maintenance and protection of their investment.
Included in the FPS sampling and test kit:
- Prepaid overnight courier shipping label
- Sterile containers for collection of bulk sprinkler water sample and pipe
- Sterile sampling tools (latex gloves, sealing film, etc)
- Insulated shipping container
- Freezable cold packs
- Chain of custody documentation

- Water chemistry report
- Microbiological test results for bacteria known to be associated with MIC
- Pipe deposit characterization
- Metallurgy report on pipe materials and quality
- Assessment of remaining pipe wall thickness (pinhole leaks, pits, wall thinning, etc.)
- Conclusions on cause and extent of deterioration
- Recommendations for rehabilitation and mitigation
