............................................................................................................................................................ NFPA 13 Fire Protection System Water Supply Evaluation Section 23.1.5 of the 2007 Edition of NFPA 13 Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems requires testing of sprinkler system supply water for microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC) and corrosive properties. Paragraph 23.1.5.1 of NFPA 13 states: "Water supplies and environmental conditions shall be evaluated for the existance of microbes and conditions that contribute to microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC)." Paragraph 23.1.5.2 of NFPA 13 states: "Water supplies and environmental conditions shall be evaluated for conditions that contribute to unusual corrosive properties." CorrConsult can provide sprinkler contractors with the neccessary sampling instructions and sterile containers to collect a water sample in a scientifically sound and microbiologically sterile manner. The water sample is then shipped via prepaid overnight courier to CorrConsult for subsequent water chemistry analysis to evaluate its corrosive properties and microbiological culturing to determine the type and count of bacteria that are known to be associated with MIC.
A written report, which include chemical and microbiological test results, is provided to the client approximately two weeks after receipt of the samples. Owners and/or operators of sprinkler systems can then make informed decisions regarding possible preventative measures and protection of their investment.
